Killarnée have been long time supporters of Variety, The Children’s Charity, through their sponsorship of the Variety Youth Choir. The Charity’s activities were noticed by Killarnée directors Paul & Elma first hand as their son Mitchell was a recipient of Variety’s ‘Brian Treasure Scholarship Award’ for singing over several years. The assistance Variety gives to a child, and what Paul & Elma believe Variety to be about was reaffirmed just recently with one child’s remarks about her experience with Variety; in that ‘It’s not just a children’s charity, but instead it’s a family’s charity.’ Paul & Elma both believe that the assistance of Variety is priceless.

Because of this understanding of Variety’s work and wishing to help contribute further, coupled with a long time ambition to be part of the Variety WA Bash, Paul and Elma finally got the opportunity to take time to realise and achieve both of their long held desires.

Taking off from Port Hedland in their Irish themed Rover, car number 33 1/3 aptly named “Dirty Tree & a Turd”, the Killarnée duo headed north east through Broome and Derby, travelling the Gibb River Road to El Questro, finishing in Kununurra. With a few minor hiccups (they were major actually) along the way, and with the Rover now destined to become an inanimate object, Paul and Elma went on to finish the journey with the title of ‘Highest Virgin Bash Fundraisers’ raising over $80,000 for Variety WA, which ultimately supports Variety with their goal of funding projects to assist WA children and ultimately their families.

The fundraising outcome was only made possible with the generous responses that came from requests for monetary donations, assistance for help ‘in kind,’ and so on from Killarnée suppliers, clients, sponsees, family & friends. To try and express the depth of their thanks is almost impossible, only to know that the response has helped Variety WA to assist directly even more sick, disabled and disadvantaged WA kids, something all of us can feel proud and satisfied about.

Paul and Elma look forward to another year of fundraising for the 2012 Variety Bash, coupled with Killarnée’s continued sponsorship of the Variety Youth Choir.
