Killarnée Foundation

Killarnée Civil & Concrete Contractors is a successful business enterprise, but more importantly it is an enterprise with a well-developed social conscience. As result the Killarnée Foundation was established with an aim to utilise the company's success to create opportunities for disadvantaged young people.

The Killarnée team has come to understand first hand many of the barriers faced by Western Australia's children and young adults with special needs. These brave young people face their futures with energy, ambition and often uplifting humour, but their various challenges make the process of living their lives just that much more difficult. To many, in particularly their families, they are remarkable people who are loved, respected and admired without reservation and who are deserving of wider public recognition.

In light of this fact Killarnée truly believe that everyone at whatever level, but particularly, no matter what age have talents to offer the world. Unfortunately most charities for young people with special needs focus on children up to the age of 18, however there are very few who assist them as they transition into adulthood. Due to the growth and success of company, Killarnée now has the ability to benefit this forgotten section of our society and in turn the wider community.

Based on the simple idea that ‘charity begins at home’ the Killarnée Foundation has supported and developed relationships with many organisations over the years.  Since its inception, it has donated continuously to not-for-profit local community organisations; among others, these include the Variety Youth Choir, the Boys Brigade and organisations supporting post high school programmes.

With Killarnée Civil & Concrete Contractors’ financial backing, supplemented with public fundraising and a strong passionate commitment, the Killarnée Foundation can add immeasurably to the quality of life for young people with special needs by:

  • Providing them the means to continue to contribute to their dreams
  • Eliminating the barriers and thus easing the journey to achieve their dreams
  • By assisting them directly to realise those dreams

As both a strong and caring organisation the Killarnée Foundation has the intensity, the means and most of all the altruistic desire to advocate on their behalf and to provide the opportunities to help these remarkable young people continue to indulge their wishes, ensuring ‘the dream doesn’t end at the age of 18’.

Foundation Ventures

The Killarnée Foundation operates through three key mechanisms which bring to reality the Foundations core values.

Individual Scholarships

The funding from children's charities generally end at the age of 18, but their dreams continue. The Foundation hopes to make these dreams become reality.

The Killarnée Foundation makes available scholarships to help eligible young adults over the age of 18 years to pursue these long-held dreams.

For example The Shine Performance Group is a collection of young people who are now in their twenties that have both the talent and the desire to entertain audiences in the wider world.  With Killarnée Foundation’s backing, they continuously perform for various audiences in the community.

Family Grants

Sometimes a single act like a helping-hand gesture can make all the difference to a family under pressure. Where possible, the Killarnée Foundation seeks to answer this urgent need for assistance with the aim to make life that little bit easier.

For example, the Foundation has contributed to and administered the raising of funds (Beards to Burn) in order to renew a 20 year old specialised vehicle. This has now allowed two wheelchair-bound sisters to travel freely in day to day life.

The Killarnée Foundation aims to assist by any means necessary such families to cope and readjust to their particular circumstance.

Community Sponsorship

Charities and other community groups require ongoing support and assistance to continue their critical role in society. Without these organisations, the community in which all of us live and work in would be a poorer place. The Killarnée Foundation aims to meet this need with particular charities and groups which hold the same core values and passion for helping young people with special needs to pursue their dreams.

For example, the Foundation has been a strong supporter of the Variety Youth Choir providing facilities for meetings, rehearsals and their own private recording studio.

The Killarnée Foundation provides continuous support for these chosen charities and groups by developing enduring relationships with both the organisation and the individuals who benefit from their work. By providing direct financial support in addition to assistance in raising funds and volunteers, the Foundation ensures that the good work and the support network for these charities and groups continue to benefit the community.
