Killarnée Formwork is an organization with a well developed social conscience. We utilize our success to create positive opportunities for disadvantaged youth through the Killarnée Foundation Since its inception in March 2006, Killarnée Formwork has donated in excess of $1,400,000.00 to not for profit organisations including the Boys Brigade and the Variety Youth Choir. However, whilst we will continue to support other organizations we feel we can do even more As we have developed relationships with those organizations which we have supported over the years we have come to know first hand many of the barriers faced by Western Australia’s disabled children and youth.
There are often well intentioned projects that offer skills to disabled and have support offerings based on successful completion of the project. This in itself has become evident as our research has shown that post project support that is available to the young people we work with are either: a) Not properly aligned with the abilities learned or methodologies used in developing skills The most obvious example of these barriers is the entertainment industry, whilst the industry in Western Australia is difficult enough to get into for fully abled young people. The opportunities for people with physical, mental or physiological difficulties to succeed in any way are exasperated by the perception that these talented young people are difficult to market. These young people are well aware of general public perception; the result is they are forced to abandon dreams of ever pursuing their chosen career path. It is this realization that has resulted in the Killarnee Foundation commencing the Shine series of projects, which are aptly named Shine, Shine On, Harvest Moon.
